Weather Wisdom: Wind Chill and Your Home
A rush of cold wind on a winter's day can make a 40°F day feel like it's 20°F. It's called the wind chill factor and it's the way your body interprets the temperature.
What about your home? Will a cold wind blowing around your home have the same effect as a lower temperature? The answer is no.
Wind chill applies to people and how we experience temperature. But it's not the same for a home. That's because a home doesn't feel anything.
When it's 35°F outside, that's the effective temperature to your pipes, insulation and the rest of your home, even if the wind chill factor outside is 0°F.
So, while people need to take extra precautions when the wind chill factor is low, your house is only affected by the temperature.
