Dear Midwest member,
Your safety and that of our cooperative employees is always a top priority.
Winter weather is expected to move into our area this weekend through Wednesday, bringing strong wind and extreme cold temperatures.
The winter weather brings the potential for power outages due to high winds causing damage to trees, poles, and lines, and we are prepared to restore your power as safely as possible. Extreme cold also has the potential to dramatically increase the demand for power and challenge the supply available on the electric grid.
Please know your cooperative is committed to keeping your electricity reliable and to keeping your lights and heat on, and we’re committed to the safety of your family and ours. We are also committed to keeping you informed should this winter weather event impact your power in any way.
It’s always important to be prepared for any potentially impactful weather event and be thoughtful about your energy use during extreme cold temperatures. Here are some suggestions for you to be ready:
- Download our SmartHub app or bookmark our website to monitor outages in your area.
- Follow us on our social media pages, where we will post the most up-to-date outage information. Facebook, Instagram, and X.
- If you experience an outage, please contact us immediately so our line crews can respond and restore your power as safely as possible.
- Assemble an emergency kit in case a power outage occurs: Flashlights with new batteries, a car cell phone charging cord, blankets, water, and non-perishable food.
- Locate warming shelters or have an alternate location if an outage lasts longer than anticipated during extreme cold.
- If you become stranded in your car near a downed power line, stay in your vehicle and always assume the lines are live. Report the downed line to your cooperative and call 9-1-1.
- Conserve energy when you can: Hold off on doing laundry or running the dishwasher, adjust your thermostat a few degrees, and unplug appliances or devices you are not using. Thank you for doing your part to keep your power reliable during extreme winter weather events.
- Members with load management switches, may be activated to conserve electricity.
Thank you for being a valuable Midwest member!
Sincerely,
Midwest Electric, Inc.
