From the bottom of our hearts, we apologize for the recent power problems some of our members have been experiencing (including the outage Saturday night). Our lines rely on AEP and DP&L’s transmission system, so we are at their mercy when these outages occur.
That said, we want the best for our members and know reliability is crucial for your busy lives. We have been working with AEP and DP&L to try to draw their attention to their transmission supply issues. Sadly, those issues alone have caused more than 80% of the outages we've had this year. Last year, members experienced an average of just 1.28 outages with 99.97% power availability.
In 2018, just two transmission supply outages accounted for more than 40% of our total outages. (We provide “distribution” electric service, which is from our substation to your home or business. We rely on AEP and DP&L for “transmission” supply to our distribution substations.)
